Ultra320 SCSI and SATA Controllers
All x206 models include an integrated Serial ATA (SATA) controller; SCSI models additionally include an integrated single-channel Ultra320 SCSI controller.
The SCSI controller (Adaptec 7901) allows speeds of up to 320MB per second across the SCSI bus and supports up to four internal Ultra160 or Ultra320 SCSI LVD (low-voltage differential) fixed drives or three Ultra320 SCSI LVD hot-swap drives in the SCSI models.

The SATA controller integrated in the Intel chipset supports up to two internal SATA drives, with maximum data transfer rates of up to 150MB per second in the SATA models.The integrated ServeRAID-7e support offers RAID-0, and -1 with either SCSI or SATA drives.

The optional ServeRAID 7t SATA controller provides support for four RAID levels, and increases SATA drive support from two to four (three simple-swap and one fixed). Optional IBM ServeRAID SCSI controllers increase the SCSI RAID support to nine different levels. Supported RAID controllers include:

The x206 offers a choice of disk storage, supporting up to three internal hot-swap SCSI, four internal fixed SCSI or four internal SATA drives (three simple-swap and one fixed), depending on the model:

Serial ATA
SATA simple-swap, 7,200 RPM — 80, 160 or 250GB (1.0TB maximum) Notes: Simple-swap SATA drives are not hot-swap (the system has to be powered off first), however, no tools or jumpers are required for installation and removal, allowing for faster, simpler servicing than fixed drives. To expand beyond two SATA drives, a ServeRAID-7t RAID controller must be purchased. It adds support for two additional drives and two other RAID levels not supported by the integrated RAID controller.

Drive Bays
The x206 contains seven drive bays. Three 3.5-inch bays are hot-swap or simple-swap capable; a fourth is fixed. This enables up to three slim-high (1") hot-swap Ultra320 SCSI drives (totaling 440.4GB), or three simple-swap SATA drives (totaling 750GB) to be installed. Using the fixed drive bay allows up to four fixed Ultra320 SCSI drives to be installed (instead of three hot-swap drives), for a total SCSI capacity of 587.2GB. Alternatively, a fixed SATA drive can be installed in the fourth bay, for a total SATA capacity of 1.0TB (750GB simple-swap; 250GB fixed SATA).  Simple-swap SATA drives can be plugged in and out as simply and quickly as hot-swap drives (however the server must be powered off at the time). No tools are required to add or remove the drives. In addition to the 3.5" HDD bays, there are two half-height 5.25-inch drive bays. A 48X10 speed IDE CD-ROM drive ships standard in one of the 5.25-inch bays, leaving one available; a half-high tape drive can be used in the second 5.25" bay. The seventh bay, contains a 1.44MB diskette drive.

64-bit PCI-X Adapter Slots
The x206 provides two full-length/full-height adapter slots, capable of supporting high-speed 64-bit/66MHz PCI-X adapters, and three full-length/full-height standard 32-bit/33MHz PCI adapter slots. Because the Gigabit Ethernet and SATA or Ultra320 SCSI controllers are integrated onto the system board, the five available adapter slots offer customers a wide degree of latitude in expansion options.
