Ask your customers

  • Did you know today's multi-core processor architecture out performs older single core architecture even with the lower clock speeds?
YES - Efficiency gains in instruction sets and manufacturing have made processors more efficient.
NO - Multi-core processors are more then yesterdays technology times two.  Features like wider execution paths, superscalar pipelines, advanced caching, instruction level parallelism, and innovations in manufacturing make today's processors the fastest ever.

  • Are you looking at virtualizing your servers in the next two years?
YES - Virtual machines can be assigned individual cores to maximize processor usage
NO - Virtualizing your servers allows you to maximize hardware purchases, using multi core processors gives you more resources and maximizes your investment.

Multi-Core processors have taken computing power to an all time level of performance and energy efficiency.  The old mechanism for processor manufactures to increase performance was to ramp clock speeds of processors ever faster.  This simple solution allowed the same programs to complete tasks faster, much the same way that a freeway with a higher speed limit allows you to complete a trip in a shorter time.  Like our highway system there are limits to how fast data can travel inside a processor.  To counter those limiting factors companies like Intel have developed processors with multiple cores.  This gives a similar boost in performance as adding lanes to a freeway, double the lanes and nearly twice as many cars can complete a trip in the same amount of time.  Double the cores in a server and nearly twice as many transactions can be made in the same amount of time.  Multi-Core processors are paving the way for dramatic changes in energy efficiency and virtualization.
