New Category Search instructions

The New Category Search (from the top tabs) is a drill-down type navigational search. With this search you start with the category and continue to narrow down via price ranges and/or attributes .

If you don't select from the refinements on the left side bar, however, your search will produce too many results. The key to a successful search is selecting the right attributes or attribute ranges that your item fits into.

Step-by-step instructions

The following is a procedure for using the New Category Search tabs. For more details about the tabs or left navigational side bar, see the interface information for the New Category Search.

  1. Click on a category from one of the top tabs. A list of subcategories will appear in the middle of the screen. The total number of items within that subcategory is listed to the right of the subcategory in parenthesis.
  2. Click on a subcategory. The entire list of items under that subcategory will appear in the search results in the middle of the screen (there is no longer a limitation for how many items will show). You can page through the results using the page numbers, "Next", or arrows that appear at the top and bottom of the search results screen. Note: double arrows will bring you to the first page or last page depending on which direction the arrow is pointing.
  3. At the same time the search results appeared in the middle, the refinement attributes for these items have displayed on the left side navigation bar. To narrow down your search results you can click any of the attributes appearing on the left side navigation bar. You can refine your search by List Price, Status, or Manufacturer or by clicking on any of the Additional Attributes listed.
  4. As you click on the attributes, the search results in the middle of the screen simultaneously changes to match the refinement/attribute you chose. You can refer to the "breadcrumbs" at the top of the search results to follow what attributes you have already selected.
  5. If you would like to go back to choose a different attribute, you can use the browser back button, or you can click on the breadcrumb that's underlined or click the "x" to the right of the breadcrumb trail to bring you all the way back. Note: if you close the top most breadcrumb trail you will go back the list of subcategories.
