Selecting a warehouses

Your customer profile includes a default warehouse from which Tech Data ships all products unless you instruct otherwise. If you are shipping direct to your customer, you may want to choose a warehouse that is closer to the shipping address.

If the indicated warehouse (default or otherwise) does not have enough stock to fill your order, the balance will be back-ordered. To prevent this, you may want to designate another warehouse that has enough stock to ship your entire order immediately. If no warehouse has enough stock, you can even split your order between two or more warehouses.

To specify which warehouse(s) to ship from, follow these steps:

  1. Add the products to be purchased from the Shopping Cart screen. For more information, see Adding products to your order.
  2. Each product to be ordered occupies its own line on the Shopping Cart screen. The name of your default warehouse appears in the Warehouse list of each product line, followed by the quantity of product that is available in that warehouse.

Note: If the warehouse column is blank for any product, your default warehouse is completely out of stock, and you cannot submit your order unless you select a warehouse. You may choose your default warehouse but the item will be backordered.

  3. To display the quantities available in other warehouses, click the adjacent list button . A list of all warehouses and quantities appears. Depending on the quantities available, you may want to do either of the following:
    • To ship your order from another warehouse, select that warehouse. The list closes, and the new warehouse appears on that product line.
    • To ship your order from more than one warehouse, follow these steps:
      1. Change the number in the Qty box to order the appropriate number of units from the indicated warehouse. The extended price changes accordingly.
      2. Using the part number box in the upper left corner, add the same product to another line on the Shopping Cart screen.
      3. On the new line, select a warehouse from which the balance of your order should be shipped.
      4. Also on the new line, change the number in the Qty box to order the appropriate number of units from that warehouse. The extended price changes accordingly.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 as necessary for other products, then continue with the balance of your order as usual.
Note: When you change the warehouse or the quantity, the system automatically performs a real-time validation of product availability. If successful, the validation displays a green check mark in the left margin. You cannot submit your order if any one of several other icons appears.
